Drug Addiction and It’s Dangerous Effects

At the present, the society is largely concerned on the use of prohibited drugs. Drug addiction could merely mean that a person needs a drug in order for him or her to function normally or to portray things the way he or she wanted it to be. It is a compulsive use of a substance despite the knowledge that continues in take of the drugs may cause negative or dangerous effects. There are variety of reasons why people continue to use these dangerous substances. It has not been found out yet as to what is the exact cause on why people get addicted. Yet, there are different citations for possible causes of drug dependence. Person’s genes is for one, it will occur when a person has a high tolerance of drugs and become dependent with it to the extent that he or she will not be contented with just a small dosage. On the other hand, peer pressure is also considered a possible reason as to why drug addiction occurs. Peer pressures may lead to substance in take. The next possible cause is emotional problem. People who are in distress, anxious and depress may choose to use drugs as their means of coping up for them to forget the condition of emotional pain they currently feel. Lastly, the opportunity of environmental stress to occur when children grow up in an environment in which they can see individuals who are illicitly utilizing illegal drugs. The development of addiction is put at a higher risk when children observe first handedly the use of drugs from their parents. Also, it has been observed that people who are more likely to abuse or become dependent on drugs are those who have easy access to drugs, low self esteem or those that come across problems with their present relationships, those who exist in a stressful lifestyle and for those individual who live in a culture wherein there is a high acceptance of drug use.

Substances that are commonly use by different individuals of different age group, status and culture includes opiates, Central nervous system (CNS) stimulants, Central Nervous System (CNS) depressants, Hallucinogens and Tetrahydrocannabinol(THC). As an effective painkiller, opiates and narcotics are powerful substances that makes a person drowsy. These include heroin, opium, codeine, and oxycodone or oxycontin. Central nervous system depressants is comprise of barbiturates, benzodiazepines, chloral hydrate and paraldehyde. These central nervous system depressants gives off an anxiety reducing effect and can also act as a sedative. On the other hand, central nervous system (CNS) stimulants is comprise of amphetamines, cocaine, dextroamphetamine, methamphetamine, and methylphenidate or retalin. A stimulating effect is what makes this drug attractive to drug users where in succeeding use would lead to tolerance thus higher amount would be needed to achieve the effect which ultimately translate to drug addiction. Hallucinogens comprise of LSD, mescaline, psilocybin and phencyclidine or angel dust. From the word hallucinogens, the effects are quite obvious which is to make the users hallucinate.

There are different stages before one reaches the state drug addiction. Any person may use drugs which may not harm them but others who uses prohibited drugs and develop dependence may result to destruction. It has been observed that young people of today seem to surpass more quickly through the stages of drug dependence. The first stage occurs when an individual decides to try the illegal drug for the reason of peer pressure. The second stage happens when because of utilizing the substance, important events are being missed out. At this stage, a person starts to worry about the idea of losing drug source, uses drugs in order to fix negative feelings and begins to join individuals who are regular users of drug. Third stage is daily preoccupation. All motivations is lost on this stage. He will not be in mind anymore on his surroundings and will lost interests on important matters. The lasts stage is the occurring of dependence. This will happen when a person cannot face daily life without drugs and losses control when it comes to drugs.

It is important to know that despite the negative consequences and the difficulty of getting out from drug addiction, there is still possibility for things to be alright. One must seek the right help in order to achieve it.
