Amphetamines and Drug Rehab

The United States pharmaceutical industry manufactures 8 to 10 billion doses of amphetamines annually, under names such as Dexedrine and Benzedrine. These drugs can be injected intravenously, and methamphetamine can be snorted or smoked but often, these drugs are swallowed as pills. The role of being an antihistamines was how these drugs were initially introduced until their stimulant effects were found out by people. These days, many people use them to combat depression or chronic fatigue from overwork or simply to boost their self-confidence and energy. They are also a component of diet drugs. Finally, stimulants such as Ritalin are used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in children. Many doses of these drugs are diverted from prescription use to illegal use and abuse when they are supposed to be under the supervision of physicians. “Speed”, “meth”, and “chalk” are the popular names of amphetamines on the street.

The release of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine and the blocking of reuptake of these neurotransmitters are how amphetamines affect the body. The symptoms of intoxication with the amphetamines are the same to the symptoms of cocaine intoxication: euphoria, self-confidence, alertness, agitation, and paranoia. Like cocaine, the amphetamines can produce perceptual illusions that are frightening. The movement of other people and objects may seem distorted or exaggerated. Users may hear frightening voices making derogatory statements about them, see sores all over their bodies, or feel snakes crawling on their arms. They may have delusions that they are being stalked. As a result of their paranoid delusions, they may act out violently against others. Some amphetamine users some lose their reality testing and develop amphetamine-induced psychotic disorder although some are aware that these experiences are not real.

This particular problem and issue are being addressed by drug rehab. In summary, they accept amphetamine dependent individuals to help them get over their addiction and move on through life. They do these through the help of carefully researched programs and with the help of experts and professionals.

There are drug rehab centers that require that their patients undergo initial detoxification first before they can be enrolled and accepted to the program. Others accept patients that are even on the early stages of amphetamine addiction and dependency.

A secluded and quite environment is usually the background of these drug rehab facilities. A combination of being posh and homey is the usual trend of the interior design to give a sense of ‘being just at home’.

These drug rehab centers have the matching set of objectives, to be able to help their patients to be able to live a life free from the shadow of amphetamines. Also as a part of these set of objectives is for them to be able to give them a future after treatment and to develop their individuality and arm them with sufficient self-assurance for them to be able be at par with people outside the facility center.

The needs of amphetamine dependent individuals are provided by drug rehab centers. Treatments and programs are facilitated and applied to each one according to their circumstances. Most of the time, programs and treatments are unique for each one because it is patterned with each individual’s experience. The treatment and approach are determined through initial assessment by experts.

The abuse of amphetamines has lead to many bad effects that drug rehab has been the savior in order to conquer these bad effects.
